The ISSCR’s Global Policy Work Protects and Advances Stem Cell Science
Amid an exceptional 12 months of advances for stem cell science and regenerative medicine, the ISSCR remains focused not only on facilitating scientific exchange through our meetings and events, but also working to ensure pivotal areas of research in our field can continue to move forward unencumbered.
Exploring the Breadth of Stem Cell Science
It is a thrilling time for stem cell science. We have just seen FDA approval of two gene therapies for sickle cell disease and embryo models have been named the method of the year by Nature. As the field pushes forward with new achievements, the society is keeping pace with those advances, designing scientific programming to showcase new discoveries in stem cell research.
Together, We Can Do So Much.
We ended last year with more ISSCR members than ever before. This year, we’ll do the same. It is remarkable growth, an indication of the strength of our community and the trajectory of our field.
This time of year, we often share messages about the benefits of becoming an ISSCR member: lower registration fees, discounts for publishing in Stem Cell Reports, and more. But membership is about something bigger.
Message from the President
I have watched the Israel-Hamas war escalate this week with profound sadness and deep concern for those in our community impacted by the violence, devastation, and loss of life. This is an unjust and deeply troubling event on top of many recent attacks against innocent lives around the world. We stand in solidarity with our colleagues and their families; we condemn these acts of terror.
A Commitment to the “I” in ISSCR
This month the ISSCR is hosting a meeting Brazil. It is the first time we have hosted a meeting in the global south since 2012, and the upcoming event promises an opportunity to spark connections in a part of the world that is escalating its investment in stem cell science.
