Stem Cell Reports Marks 10 Years of Advancing Stem Cell Science
In June, International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) society journal, Stem Cell Reports, officially celebrates 10 years of publishing science that is moving the field of stem cell research forward.
In the inaugural issue of Stem Cell Reports published in June 2013, the editorial board shared the mission of the new journal – to deliver significant, well-documented findings to the stem cell research community in a timely manner. This foundation for the new journal, which started as a “leap of faith,” remains true today. Over the course of the last 10 years the journal has become “the voice of the field” publishing commentaries, editorials, and forums, that shape policies and standards. The anniversary issue of Stem Cell Reports will publish on 13 June 2023.
In addition to the anniversary issue, the ISSCR and Stem Cell Reports will mark the occasion in several ways throughout the year:
ISSCR Digital Webinar: Stem Cells and Cellular Reprogramming: A Celebration of 10 Years of Outstanding Science in Stem Cell Reports
Tuesday, 9 May 2023
4:30 – 6:00 p.m., EDT
Cellular reprogramming has been around for decades but was catapulted into the scientific spotlight with the discovery that a combinatorial code of transcription factors could convert somatic cells to pluripotent stem cells. More recently, this approach has been applied towards directly reprogramming one somatic cell type into another, bypassing the pluripotent stage. This approach has been used in vitro and in vivo to convert cells into muscle, neurons, and cardiac cells, among other cell types. This special program, part of Stem Cell Report’s 10-year anniversary celebration, will explore in vitro and in vivo reprogramming in different systems and tissues to explore the latest approaches and applications.

The Stem Cell Report with Martin Pera
Season 2 Episode 9
16 May 2023
Throughout the 10-year history of Stem Cell Reports, the journal has published nearly 2,000 papers across the breadth of stem cell research. In this special episode of the Stem Cell Report, we are celebrating the anniversary of the journal by talking with the authors from some of the most highly cited publications in the journal’s 10-year history.
Research in muscle stem cell biology, including the developmental origins, cell fate determination, niche, and heterogeneity, among additional aspects, has provided valuable insight into understanding physiological function of muscle growth and aging but has also shed insight into the pathophysiology underlying muscle-wasting diseases and potential approaches to treating it. One such neuromuscular disease is Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a monogenetic disease that afflicts approximately 1 of out of 500 males born worldwide.
The guests on this episode of the podcast have collective expertise that makes them the “dream team” of muscle stem cell biology and its application to treat disease

ISSCR 2023: Meet the Editors of Stem Cell Reports
Meet-up Hub
Thursday 15 June
1:45-2:30 p.m., EDT
Meet the editors of Stem Cell Reports to discuss a potential submission, your paper in review or new trends in scientific publishing, including the growth of open access, the increasing role of preprint servers, and the role of social media in disseminating research findings. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions about Stem Cell Reports and publishing in your society’s journal.
In addition to events that discuss the history and impact of publishing in Stem Cell Reports, the top cited papers and notable cover images throughout the years will be shared on journal and ISSCR social media channels. Follow activities and content that’s made an impact throughout the year using #SCRTurns10 and help the international stem cell community celebrate. Follow Stem Cell Reports on twitter @StemCellReports.
About the International Society for Stem Cell Research (www.isscr.org)
With more than 4,600 members from 80 countries worldwide, the International Society for Stem Cell Research is the preeminent global, cross-disciplinary, science-based organization dedicated to stem cell research and its translation to the clinic. The ISSCR mission is to promote excellence in stem cell science and applications to human health. Additional information about stem cell science is available at A Closer Look at Stem Cells, an initiative of the Society to inform the public about stem cell research and its potential to improve human health.
About Stem Cell Reports
Stem Cell Reports is the open access journal of the ISSCR for communicating basic discoveries in stem cell research, in addition to translational and clinical studies. Stem Cell Reports focuses on original research with conceptual or practical advances that are of broad interest to stem cell biologists and clinicians.
