Stem Cell Reports Reaches a Milestone

This June marks the 10-year anniversary of your society journal, Stem Cell Reports.  It also marks a key milestone in our mission to share excellent research around the world. Today, the journal serves you – our international stem cell community.

Recalling 13 years ago, when I first proposed to launch a journal of our own, our intention from the very beginning was to make the journal open access. It was a progressive concept at the time, but something we believed was critical to the future. After our three years of effort, Stem Cell Reports was launched in 2013. Since then, this philosophy of accessibility has permeated many ISSCR initiatives to be openly available to the community: the education syllabus, guidelines and standards, well over 60 scientific programs free to members, and EDI and global sustainability programs, to name a few. Our commitment to sharing important advances and information with the research community and the public at large is stronger today than ever, thanks in large part to the leadership of our journal.

Throughout the journal’s history, we have published nearly 2,000 papers across the breadth of stem cell research. This success is owed to our past and present editors, reviewers, authors, and ISSCR leaders and members – as well as the vision of our founding Editor-in-Chief Christine Mummery and current Editor Martin Pera.

In recognition of this milestone, this week we hosted the webinar, Stem Cells and Cellular Reprogramming: A Celebration of 10 Years of Outstanding Science in Stem Cell Reports, where Sophie Jarriault, Samantha Morris, and Marius Wernig discussed their research, how their work has advanced over the years, and the impact publishing with the journal had on communicating their science. It will be on demand soon at ISSCR.digital.

In addition, the next episode of “The Stem Cell Report with Martin Pera” podcast, we will present the “dream team” of muscle stem cell biology – Akitsu Hotta, April Pyle, and Tomas Rando – all featured authors in the journal discuss their research in detail as part of our anniversary recognition.

Last but not least, at the ISSCR 2023 Annual Meeting, we will discuss the impact of the journal on advancing our field and supporting the strategic initiatives and the benefits we offer members in their pursuit of research and clinical applications, professional advancement, knowledge, and scientific excellence.  Of course, these discussions are in addition to an exceptional scientific program.

I cannot wait to see what the next 10 years of Stem Cell Reports has in store for us and invite all of you to share the fruit of our journey.

 Haifan
